Eye of the Tiger Bench

Available for purchase at #CountertopArt.

Located in the Avenue Building, on the corner of 3rd and 21st in downtown Saskatoon.

This piece gets its name from the tiger oak its crafted from. When I set out to build this bench, I was unsure what I wanted to craft it out of. I got rummaging though my stores of wood and came across some tiger oak that came to me with a bit of a story years ago. I had purchased some wood tools and clamps from a craftsman that was retiring and clearing out his shop. That oak happened to be the last of the wood he had left from his years of crafting. As he no longer had any need for it so he included it in the deal as long as I promised that some day I would turn it in to something.  So I decided now was the time and this was the project for it. I’m glad I decided to go with as its grain is very long and straight with lots of its name sake tiger stripes running vibrantly off in all directions.

MATERIALS

This one is all tiger oak it had a amber base dye stain applied to it to accentuate the striping. Then a espresso coloured pigment stain to add contrast, followed by 5 coats of water based polyurethane clear coat to provide a deep looking long lasting finish.
