For this piece, my goal was to pay homage to the mid-century makers.  I have always enjoyed how they were able to take simple shapes and straight lines and turn them into a piece with lots to look at. I then set out to craft a mid-century executive desk with a modern 21st-century feel. The executive looks good from all sides thus allowing for any office configuration desired. It features a floating 1 ¾ inch thick solid maple top and two floating side cabinets each with push to open the 6-inch upper drawer and lowers designed for 8 ½ x 11 hanging files all suspended from walnut legs. The design of this piece gives it a very solid but open look with lots of eye-catching details.

 

MATERIALS

 

The executives top is solid maple and when I say solid I mean solid. The top weighs in at around 60 lbs. Its legs and cabinets are crafted from walnut with maple drawers and accent locking pins. It has been finished with 5 coats of water-based polyurethane clear coat for a deep long lasting finish.
